The Forced Convection Apparatus is designed to study convective heat transfer from a heated surface to a fluid under forced flow conditions. It allows students to understand the heat transfer process, verify theoretical correlations, and determine heat transfer coefficients under different airflow rates.
Educational Objectives
-
Understand principles of forced convection heat transfer.
-
Study the effect of air velocity and surface temperature on heat transfer.
-
Determine heat transfer coefficients under laminar and turbulent flow.
-
Verify theoretical correlations of Nusselt, Reynolds, and Prandtl numbers.
Performance Measurement
-
Surface and fluid temperature measurement at various points.
-
Air velocity control and measurement.
-
Calculation of heat transfer coefficients.
-
Comparison of experimental and theoretical results.
Panel and Instruments
-
Horizontal duct with electric heater and test section.
-
Blower unit with variable speed control.
-
Thermocouples at inlet, outlet, and along the test surface.
-
Digital temperature indicator.
-
Voltmeter and ammeter for electrical measurements.
-
Airflow measurement device (orifice meter / anemometer).
-
Safety features with overload protection.
