The Boiling Heat Transfer Apparatus is designed to study heat transfer during pool boiling under controlled conditions. It enables students to observe different boiling regimes, determine critical heat flux, and analyze the effect of surface temperature and heat input on boiling heat transfer.
Educational Objectives
-
Understand boiling mechanisms: natural convection, nucleate boiling, and film boiling.
-
Determine heat flux and boiling heat transfer coefficients.
-
Study the effect of heat input on boiling characteristics.
-
Identify the critical heat flux (CHF) point.
-
Compare experimental data with theoretical models.
Performance Measurement
-
Measurement of heater surface temperature.
-
Monitoring of water/working fluid temperature.
-
Calculation of heat flux and heat transfer coefficient.
-
Analysis of boiling curves for different operating conditions.
Panel and Instruments
-
Stainless steel boiling vessel with transparent window.
-
Electric immersion heater with variable power supply.
-
Thermocouples for surface and fluid temperature.
-
Digital temperature indicator.
-
Voltmeter and ammeter for input power measurement.
-
Safety features with over-temperature protection.
